UCU students speak many languages, including English, Kiswahili, French, Arabic, and others. The centre supports multilingual writers while recognising that strong academic writing is learned through practice, feedback, and confidence.

Academic English in context
EAL sessions focus on how language works inside a real assignment. Mentors help writers notice sentence patterns, academic vocabulary, transitions, tone, idioms, and discipline-specific expectations.

Grammar clinics
Grammar support is not a list of disconnected rules. The centre helps writers identify repeated patterns in their own writing and practise corrections they can use independently.

Cultural expectations
Academic writing differs across cultures and disciplines. Mentors can explain expectations around thesis statements, evidence, citation, directness, source use, and authorial voice.
Before you come
