Preparing student writing coaches

Peer Tutor Training

Training advanced students in tutoring practice, communication, feedback ethics, and academic integrity.

Peer Tutor Training visual

Peer tutors are central to the UCU Writing Centre model. They help fellow students think, revise, and grow while also deepening their own communication and leadership skills.

01

What tutors learn

Training covers writing-centre pedagogy, active listening, question-based tutoring, feedback prioritisation, working with multilingual writers, confidentiality, and academic integrity.

02

Ethics of feedback

Peer tutors learn to support without taking ownership. They do not write papers for students; they help writers understand choices and make stronger revisions.

03

Leadership through service

Tutoring develops patience, communication, humility, problem-solving, and the ability to work across disciplines and personalities.
