The UCU Writing Centre builds more than individual papers. It creates a culture where students write together, learn practical strategies, share creative work, and grow as peer mentors.
01
Writing bootcamps
Bootcamps are intensive, multi-day sessions that help graduate students begin, restart, or finish major thesis chapters through structured writing blocks, goal setting, feedback moments, and accountability.
02
Accountability circles
Weekly peer-led circles help students set word-count goals, write silently together, report progress, and build sustainable habits without waiting for panic before a deadline.
03
Interactive workshops
Workshops provide short, targeted lessons on APA and MLA citation management, literature mapping, writer’s block, paragraph development, revision strategies, and research organisation.
04
Creative and digital showcases
The centre can host open-mic nights and digital galleries where students share podcasts, essays, poetry, stories, reflective writing, and multimodal projects.
05
Peer tutor training
Advanced students can learn tutoring pedagogy, feedback ethics, communication strategies, confidentiality, and the principles of helping without taking over another writer’s work.
