Writing Across the Curriculum recognises that students learn disciplinary thinking through disciplinary writing. The UCU Writing Centre partners with lecturers so writing instruction supports course outcomes.
01
Assignment design
The centre can help lecturers clarify task purpose, audience, genre, deliverables, stages, source expectations, and feedback points so students understand what successful writing looks like.
02
Rubric support
Rubrics can make assessment fairer and feedback clearer. The centre supports rubrics that define expectations for argument, evidence, organisation, citation, language, and disciplinary conventions.
03
Course workshops
Lecturers may request targeted workshops on lab-report writing, business proposals, literature mapping, legal writing, reflective writing, or research communication.
Before you come
- Share the course learning outcomes.
- Share the assignment prompt.
- Identify common student difficulties.
- Build revision into the timeline.
- Invite the centre early, not only before submission.
